Our first experiment - " Make Plastic Milk"

Well, what a great start to the term with our Writing and Science.

We made "plastic" from hot milk and vinegar or lemon juice.

We are now busy writing explanations and discovering more about these blobs called casein.

Have a look at these photos.

Welcome back to Term 3

Hi everyone

I hope you have all had a great break and ready for more fun in Room 13.

Tomorrow we start with our weekly experiments. You will find out more when you arrive!!

Remember to bring your home learning book back and check you have all the tools of the trade required for learning!!

I've bought you a German soccer ball from FIFA Football World cup and an awesome new class serial book from an Australian writer. This book won the 2014 book for kids in Australia! Of course we must finish "The Silver Sword" first. Remember we left the family looking across Lake Constance in Switzerland but a huge storm was brewing!

See you tomorrow.

I can''t wait to hear what you have been up to.

Mrs McCallum watching the boys playing rugby on Saturday

On Saturday we played Sydenham at Burnside Rugby Park.

We beat them 45 - 35. It was a tight game in the first half. In the second half we improved. We gained a lot of territory.

The player of the day was Jonty. Tackler for the day was Josh.

Thanks go to our coaches and parents.

Noah.

Maori Arts and artists

We have been learning about ancient rock art found in New Zealand with drawings made by Maori in the South Island between 600 and 1000 years ago.

We have also been learning about contemporary Maori artists. This includes artist Tracey Tawhiao who paints and draws Maori symbols and patterns on newspaper pages. We have worked on her ideas. Come and see our back wall in Room 13.

We have also looked at the artist Iwi Le Comte who creates Maori designs on IPhone covers. We have made our own IPhone covers. They are also displayed in our classroom.

We have looked at Maori carvers that have been taught the ancient Maori tradition of wood carving by tohunga whakairo. We then have been carving designs using soap and sharp pencils.

Here are three soap carvings.

"Super hero Surprise" by Sam Lamont

Some super heroes visited children at Christchurch Hospital on Friday 27th June. These included Batman, Iorn Man, Super Woman, Captain America, Black Widow, Flatman, Mr Incredidle and Spider Man. They had fun with the children and gave out gifts. At the end of the visit, Batman and Spider Man climbed down the hospital waving and high fiving children through the window as they past by. These super heroes made the childrens day.

I think this was a really nice thing to do and I hope more projects like this happen for people who are not feeling well.
